Il club venne fondato in periodo pasquale ed i fondatori decisero di adottare come colore il verde, tradizionalmente usato dalla chiese cattolica come colore liturgico / the club was founded in Easter time and the founders decided to adopt as the color green, traditionally used by the Catholic Church as the liturgical color
 

CLUB BRUGGE KV 1891 / NERO-BLU / BLACK-BLUE

la prima maglia del club era azzurra con una striscia diagonale blu scuro, in seguito il club ordinò ai giocatori di indossare tutti dei pantaloncini neri, in precedenza ogni giocatore indossava pantaloncini differenti. Nel frattempo i giocatori vennero sopranominati neroblu in quanto da lontano la striscia diagonale sembrava nera. Nel 1908 vennero acquistate delle nuove maglia azzurre e nere, infine nel 1908 venne introdotta la maglia a strisce verticali nere e blu / the original FC Bruges shirts were dark blue with a lightblue broad diagonal ribbon from the left shoulder to the right hip. After a couple of years the Club ordered the players to wear black shorts, as before they played with all different colours of shorts (black, brown, grey, ...). But even FC Bruges were known as the BlackandBlues , because seen from a distance, the darkblue looked more like black and the crowds cheered for Blue and Black. In 1908 they bought new shirts, Lightblue and Black. The vertical stripes were introduced in 1918 just after the First World War and it was in that shirt that FC Bruges became champion for the first time.
